of the whole Czech Republic (1602 m) too is one of the most favourite places for the trips with the beautiful view. It is a symbol of the eastern part of the Giant mountains, 4,5 km away from Pec pod Sn?žkou. In the middle of the mountain there is a boarder between the Czech republic and Poland. Name Sn?žka come from the 19. centuries from the expression "Sn?žná" or snow cover. The first Czech name was Pahrbek Sn?žný, than Sn?žovka and since 1823 has been used name Sn?žka.

Small Chapel - memorial to mountain victims
A symbolic memorial to mountain victims in the former small chapel in the saddle of Lu?ní and Studni?ní hora (now Modré sedlo = Blue Saddle). The original memorial was built in the style of a symbolic mountain cemetery near Dix´s Cross in Ob?í d?l, but which was destroyed by an avalanche. In 1957 the adaptation of the stone chapel in Modré sedlo started. Inside there are plagues with data about historic tragedies, the victims names are writen on a common tablet. Since 1935 over 50 people have died in the Giamt mountains. In addition to the over 100 people who have been endangered by avalanches in the Giant mountains. Of whom 67 of them died according to historic documents.
